Author: Abhishek Agarwal
Some anglers would like to hit the water when the sun is just coming up while there are those who will rather make their way to the water front when the sun is setting over the horizon – these are the night fishermen. One of the reasons is that the summer days are too hot and humid to spend on the water. After all fishing is all about relaxation is it not?

During the day the surface of the water will be warm forcing the marine life to swim deeper in their quest for more oxygen and a more comfortable environment. These fish come to the surface during the cooler times of the night to feed this is hen the night anglers make their move.

Bass fish are a popular species with night fishers. These species of fish are slow moving creatures and never migrate too far from their usual dwelling place you will be able to find them with a fair amount of ease not too far from their dwelling. If you have a favorite fishing spot you will be able to lure them there at night as well as during the day. You will also be able to find these fish where there is an abundance of crawfish, making it easier to locate your night fishing prey.

If you are planning to fish at night you will do best to get your self some heavier tackle that you would use on a day fishing trip. Keep in mind that sight is very limited during the night and things tend to get darker near the water, your reel and lure will be the only way you will be able to determine if you have a catch or not. Hair jigs, pork rinds and rubber jigs are some of the best lures you could use during night fishing.

Remember to check with the weather bureau for ideal conditions before you set out on your fishing expedition. Take the necessary precautions such as a pair of long rubber boots to save you from lethal nips from the creepy crawlies. A rain coat or poncho will serve you well if the rain Gods decide to pour down on you. Then you must take along a first aid kit and do not forget your flash light. In fact, if you are going out on a night fishing trip it is best to go out in pairs or a group – just in case you are not the only one out fishing.

If you are going night fishing in a boat ensure that the vessel is working well and that there is enough gas to get you back to shore. A break down in the middle of the night far from shore in a boat that cannot be rowed is a bore – but then you so have the fish to keep you busy.

Once you have checked your gear, safety equipment and communication instruments you can make for where the night game is biting – and hope they are all fish!
